How to make a parking block(ohtsu-gaki)

Togawa Nihon Garden Laboratory.
This time I will introduce how to make a car stop.It is easy to understand even for beginners, and a lot of photographs were posted. If it is this size, the material can be carried by the passenger car even if there is no track. In addition, the base crate is made to last long with preservatives, and it always looks beautiful by exchanging bamboo frequently. For dimensions, bamboo bends vary from the original to the end. Please calculate the gap while checking the bending condition of the bamboo. In addition, because it is not interesting when I put the dimensions, I would appreciate it if you could trial and error by preference.

This time, I will show you how to make a parking block(bamboo material). It is easy for beginners to understand, and there are many photos. With this size, you can carry materials in a car without a truck. In addition, the base wooden frame is made to last with longer preservatives and the bamboo is changed frequently so that it always looks beautiful. As for the dimensions, bamboo bends from the beginning to the end depending on the location. Please calculate the warima@cleavage_while checking the bending of the bamboo. Also, it is not fun to add dimensions, so I would appreciate it if you could try it out.

Wood processing of timber

The material is 4.8 inch, 6 inch square rafter and the middle part of a bamboo

We process lumber. It is convenient to use a tape measure.

I will process the cut surface with a chisel.

Holes are drilled and machined with a chisel. The deeper it gets, the stronger it gets.

Processes the rafters.

Machine the column. Cut the top edge with a saw and shave with a chisel. It is processed so that thick bamboo covers it.

Pillars assembly

Insert the pillars and assemble them. All the pillars and combinations are screwed.

Stop the top so that the pillar does not open.

Burn with a burner. The roughness of the detail is not noticeable by peeling.
Attention This baking is just a decoration, so don’t overcook it. After washing it with a scrubbing brush, apply preservatives.

Bamboo processing

Wash the bamboo with a brass brush.

Break the bamboo from the tip. Make sure that Nata(sword) is always at the center of the circle.

The sides of the muntins are combined, so the back of the knot is shaved to make it thin.

The example of pulling a bamboo with a nata or a cutting knife fixed on the knee

Example using a planer

Choose a horizontal pier.If you are too thick, you will be pushed by the cla
ss and the horizontal pier will bend, so be careful. If the crosspiece is too thick, it will be by pushed muntins and the crosspiece will bend.

Make a hole with a drill and screw it.

If there are knots, process them.

We make a thick bamboo hat. After marking with a chalk line and a red pencil, you use a saw, a holsaw, a chisel, a pliers and so on.

Be careful with the knot.

Mounting of Kumiko and Kasadake

Place the kumiko alternately and cover with “kasadake”.

Example using wire.

Example of a rafter fastened with screws.

Finishing and completion

Cut to the appropriate width.

We file our hands and clothes with sandpaper to prevent them from being damaged.

It’s done.
