創作垣(そうさくがき）の作り方
十川日本庭園研究室です。
今回は、お施主様（ご住職）からご要望のありました、山と月をイメージした創作垣をご紹介します。竹は、全て１月中に田んぼから遠い、山上から切り出したものです。竹を切る時期は、地域とその年によって変わりますのでご注意ください。また、買ったものではありませんから、好きなだけ良い材料が使えます。
尚、竹垣を長持ちさせるのではなく、竹藪をきれいにすると考えてください。今後、竹垣が流行することで、荒れた竹藪の整備につながれば幸いです。昔は高度な技術と言われていましたが、工法が判れば簡単ですので、皆さんも試行錯誤してみてください。

This time, I would like to introduce you to a creative fence inspired by mountains and the moon, which was requested by the owner. All bamboo was cut from the top of the mountain far from the rice field in January. Please note that the time of cutting bamboo varies depending on the area and the year. Also, you can use as many good ingredients as you want as you don’t buy.
In addition, please think that you don’t make the bamboo fence last long, but make the bamboo bush clean. I hope that the spread of bamboo fences will lead to the maintenance of rough bamboo groves. In the past, it was said to be the best technology in landscape architecture, but it is easy if you open the door, so please try it by trial and error.

竹材準備 Prepare bamboo materials
割竹（わりだけ）を作ります。昔から木モト竹ウラと言います。竹は先端から割って元から削ります。
Make waritake(split bamboo) . The bamboo is cut from the tip and shaved from the beginning.
竹藪の様子です。竹垣に使用できる良い竹がたくさんあります。

荒れた竹藪をきれいにします。
割竹の幅と本数を計算して、まとめて縛ります。
We calculate the width and number of waritake and tie them together.
事前に作る竹垣の大きさを決めておく必要があります。
組子の貼り付け Pasting muntins
柱を平行に立込みます。視線の近い上方から曲がりの少ない割竹をビスで張り付けて行きます。
Make the columns parallel. From the upper part close to the line of sight, we attach waritake with less curvature with screws.
順次張り付けて行きます。
I will attach them one by one.
途中で平行がどうか、都度確認が必要です。
組子の張り付けが終わりました。
I finished attaching muntins.
竹を中性洗剤で洗います。洗いすぎに注意してください。
Wash the bamboo with mild detergent. Please be careful not to wash too much.
押縁の取り付け Attaching the edge
端を切り落として。太竹（ふとだけ）の縦押縁（たておしぶち）を取り付けます。
Cut off the ends. Attach the thick bamboo vertical edge.
太い順に並べるとキレイに見えます。
If you line them up in order of thickness, they look beautiful.
上から天端（てんば）が見えないように注意して、さらに横押縁（よこおしぶち）を付けます。
Be careful not to see the top edge from the top, and add a horizontal edge.
山のデザインの押縁を仮止めした状態です。
It is the condition that the edge of the design of the mountain is temporarily fixed.
特別太い竹の元部分を月に見立てます
The base of the thick bamboo looks like the moon.
仕上げ・完成 Finishing and completion
全体のバランスを微調整しながら、レーザーレベルを使い押縁をビス止めします。竹どうしはビスで止まります。
While finely adjusting the overall balance, screw the edge using the laser level.
月の丸竹も裏からビス止めします。
Also screw the round bamboo of the moon from the back.
棕櫚縄（しゅろなわ）で結束しますが、今回は赤いヒモを千鳥（ちどり）に用いました。
It is tied with a palm line, but this time, a red string is used for chidori(zigzag pattern).

夕日を浴びて、赤味を帯びた竹垣もきれいです。手前は当室の杉田のデザインしたミニチュアです。トンボも作りました。
