筧（かけひ）の作り方

十川日本庭園研究室です。今回は筧の作り方です。

筧は一般に、手水鉢（ちょうずばち）に水を注ぎ込む装置です。駒頭（こまがしら）を付けるタイプなど様々ですが、ここでは横樋（よことい）の削ぎ落とし方を紹介します。失敗した時のために、中の節抜きと竹洗いは後回しにするのがコツです。竹細工の練習にはとても役立ちますので、皆様も試してみてください。

This is the Tokawa Japanese Garden Laboratory. This time, the “Kakehi” method is used.
Kakehi is generally a device for pouring water into a chozubachi. There are various types, such as the type with ”Komagashira” , but here we will introduce the Sogiotoshi (scraping off)of Yokotoi (side gutter). It is very useful for the practice of bamboo work, so please try it.

①竹材の加工
Processing of bamboo materials

縦樋（たてとい）の太竹と横樋（よことい）の細竹を合わせて、バランスを見ます。
You check the balance by matching the thick bamboo of the vertical gutter and the thin bamboo of the horizontal gutter.

• 

縦樋に横樋を当て赤鉛筆で印をした後、太竹にホルソーまたはドリルで穴を開けます。穴はノミや切り出しナイフだけでも開けることができます。
After putting a horizontal gutter on the thick bamboo and making a mark with a red pencil, make a hole in the thick bamboo with a hole saw or a drill. You can make a hole only with a chisel or a cutting knife.

穴を切り出しナイフで微調整します。竹の削り方には、コツがあります。
Cut out the hole and make fine adjustments with a knife. There is a trick to shaving bamboo.

横樋が抜けないように、裏側を抜くための穴を開けます。
To prevent the side gutter from coming out, we will make a hole to pull out the back side.

• 

切り出しナイフで調整します。
Adjust with a cutting knife.

• 

ここで細竹の横樋のモトを半分切り、加工しておきます。
At this point, halve the root of the side gutter (thin bamboo) and process it.

• 

ペンチで剥ぎます。
Peel with pliers.

• 

縦樋に入れる部分はこのように加工します。
The part to put into the gutter is processed like this.

• 

太竹の縦樋の裏が抜けました。次に細竹の横樋を差し込みます。
The back of the gutter (thick bamboo) came out. Next, insert the side gutter (thin bamboo).

表側の、横樋を差し込んだ部分は、節の部分にすると、キレイに収まります。
The part where the side gutter is inserted on the front side will fit neatly if you make it into the joint part.

竹の中の節を抜きます。
Remove the bamboo joints.

• 

節を抜く際に横樋は、角度によって中が見えるので、そこは加工します。
When you remove the knot, you can see the inside of the side gutter depending on the angle, so you machine there.

• 

裏側に横樋が抜けないように、竹串（たけぐし）を作ります。
Make a bamboo skewer so that the side gutter does not come out on the back side.

横樋を斜めに切り、ペンチで剥いで削ぎ落とします。
Cut the side gutter diagonally, and peel it off with pliers.

• 

先端にカンナをかけます。
Shave the tip with a planer.

• 

仕上がった状態です。
It’s done.

②組み立て
Assembly

パイプとホースの内部構造です。
The internal structure of pipes and hoses.

• 

縦樋を立て込みホースを出します。
Stand the vertical gutter up and pull out the hose.

• 

横樋を取り付けます。角度が悪いと、水が逆流しますので注意してください。
Install the side gutter. If the angle is bad, water will flow back, so please be careful.

③完成
Finished

裏に竹串を差し込んで完成です。
Insert a bamboo skewer in the back to finish.
